my approach

As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I believe in your ability to take responsibility for yourself and your choices.

During sessions, we will work together to explore your thoughts and feelings using theories such as Person-Centred, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis, coupled with other creative approaches where appropriate, with the aim of bringing you closer to your true self.

Some of the concerns I work with include anxiety, depression, grief, abuse, addiction, relationships, neurodiversity, identity, childhood issues, OCD, domestic abuse, self-esteem, sexuality, gender, anger, stress, substance misuse and self-harm.

As a member of the BACP, my approach is guided by their ethical framework, which incorporates therapists’ commitment to clients, the ethics informing the work and the application of good counselling practice.

FAQs

Can I book a one-off session?

My approach is not short-term and so I ask for a commitment to at least 6 weekly sessions at the time of booking. I offer a free initial 15-minute consultation to help you decide whether you feel comfortable working with me. Some clients will work with me for 12 sessions; some less - some more.

How long are sessions?

Each session lasts 50 minutes and takes place weekly

Can I get a diagnosis from you??

I am unable to diagnose mental health conditions but am able to work with your individual experience of this. As a humanistic counsellor, I will work with what you bring rather, than any labels that you do not find helpful.

What can I expect from my first session with you?

Your first session can be used to explore your expectations or raise any concerns.  I will email you a contract to read at your leisure beforehand, so that you can ask any questions you might have so that we can agree a way to work together. Once you are comfortable, I will ask you to sign this agreement.

How do you keep my information safe?

I adhere to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), which came into force in May 2018. It protects individuals’ personal information and improves their control over how it is collected, stored, shared and used. A copy of my privacy policy can be found here.
